1,4SIGHT® Now Approved for Use on Seed Potatoes in the Czech Republic

1,4SIGHT® is now authorized for use on seed potatoes in the Czech Republic. Its active ingredient, 1,4-dimethylnaphthalene, is a naturally occurring compound found in potato skins. Rather than damaging the sprouts, 1,4SIGHT® works by stimulating the production of dormancy-related proteins, effectively delaying sprouting in a reversible manner. Once applications cease, the stimulation diminishes, allowing the potato to resume natural sprouting.

Applications of 1,4SIGHT® to seed tubers can affect apical dominance, which may increase stem and tuber numbers of resulting tubers. Increase of numbers per plant may affect tuber size distribution resulting in more marketable yield on commercial size fractions. Due to sprouting efficacy of 1,4SIGHT higher seed storage temperatures may be used.
