Austria approve shorter WHP of 3 days, 11 July 2025

July 17, 2025

1,4SIGHT can from now on be used in Austria with a shorter withholding period (WHP) of 3 days. The Austrian Regulatory Agency AGES has updated the product authorisation of 1,4SIGHT accordingly.

The reduction of the period from last treatment with 1,4SIGHT until potatoes are removed from the store goes hand in hand with the increase of the Maximum Residue Level (MRL) for the active substance 1,4-dimethylnaphthalene (1,4-DMN) to 20 mg/kg.

The increase of the MRL and the subsequent reduction of the WHP has been proposed by DormFresh together with the submission of scientific documentation that these changes would not result in a higher risk for the consumer.

The active substance 1,4-DMN is also produced by potatoes and other plants and can therefore be considered as a natural substance. In potatoes it is involved in the regulation of the tuber dormancy. In several geographies worldwide, 1,4SIGHT has therefore been approved as a biochemical control agent.

"With the approval of the Austrian regulators, we are taking the next step towards a more flexible and specific use of 1,4SIGHT® for storage managers worldwide. This will also benefit the consumers by being offered high quality potatoes with a longer shelf-life" said Fabian Frings, Strategic Marketing & Accounts Manager for DormFresh Limited.
